The Pocket Case

The pocket instrument case was the “cell phone” of the 18th century. Just about every gentleman during this time period would own one. Typically, pocket cases were covered with shagreen (shark or eel skin, generally dyed black or green), and contained instruments such as a pen, lead holder, compass, pair of dividers, a scale, and a sector, parallel rule, and perhaps a protractor.
